Duplex Piano Bar
61 Christopher Street
OK, we were damn close to a subway entrance, we knew it. But we
were closer still to another bar, so we went
into the Duplex. I guess we should have brought a fire extinguisher
with us, because the bar tender was flaming!
But the place
also had some couples, and a group of married women on "girls' night
out." And there was me and Steiny. I guess when you run a
bar in Greenwich Village, you have to open your doors to all types.
We weren't sure what to do, so we called Puppy. Pam answered the
phone and told us she was surprised we called so early. We
apologized, and promised to do better later in the evening.
We had only one beer at the Duplex while talking to Puppy and decided
we had to leave when we noticed the guys at the end of the bar taking a
keen interest in our Hawaiian shirts.
We were getting hungry by this time, so we decided to take the subway up to 30th street or
so in search of pub food.
